Costa Teguise
Lying just to the north of Arrecife is the pleasant and tranquil resort of Costa Teguise. Formerly Lanzarote's capital this laid back town is the perfect holiday destination for families. The nightlife is lower key than some of the other resorts and the town boasts the island's only Aqua Park and golf course. There are a number of beaches in the region and an abundance of water sports and activities to keep everyone amused. Friday evenings are not to be missed in the Pueblo Marinero area as the local artists and craftsmen gather to show off their work at the Craft Market.
Puerto del Carmen
Situated on the eastern coast Puerto del Carman is the largest and busiest resort on the island. The main beach, Playa Grande, is flanked by a bustling strip of bars, restaurants and shops and offers a massive range of water sports and activities for every age group. The new town area of Puerto del Carman is ideal for those of you looking for an excuse to party. With a multitude of pubs bars discos and nightclubs there is no excuse not to let your hair down and dance the night away. For those with more reserved tastes the old town is a delightful fishing port that is positively teeming with quality restaurants with an emphasis on the locally caught fresh fish and seafood.
Playa Blanca
Located right on the southern tip of the island is Lanzarote's third biggest resort, Playa Blanca. Once a small fishing village, this quaint town has managed to incorporate the introduction of leisure developments and luxury hotels whilst still retaining its intrinsic charm. The recently completed promenade hosts a number of restaurants, bars and shops and is adjacent to the beautiful Playa Dorada beach. There are also a number of nightclubs for the younger holidaymakers and for those of you that fancy a bit of island hopping the ferry to Fuertaventura sails from the port.
Puerto Calero
The marina of Puerto Calero was opened in 1990 and although for many years it looked rather deserted, Puerto Calero now has no lack of yachts and boats. It is fast becoming one of the nicest places on the island with many new shops and restaurants opening. The marina is also the starting point for a range of activities including submarine safaris, shark fishing and cruises.
Matagorda
A purpose-built development built to exploit the beach of the same name. Quieter, more restrained than neighbouring Puerto del Carmen.
