Traditional Cypriot cuisine has many different elements to it, and in Larnaca there are plenty of delightful restaurants and cafes to choose from that serve traditional Cypriot meals. A fantastic way to sample Cypriot dishes is to try Meze-lots of small servings of typical meals including salads, fish, meat and vegetables. If Cypriot food doesn’t appeal to you, there are plenty of other restaurants and cafés within the resort that offer an international menu. Most hotels also have their own restaurants and snack bars that offer a variety of food and meals are normally served in a buffet style. Nightlife in Larnaca is fairly laid back and quite low key compared to other resorts in Cyprus but there is still plenty to keep you entertained when the sun goes down! Most of the nightlife can be found along the promenade area where you can choose from traditional Cypriot Tavernas that have Cypriot entertainment including dancing and music and they are a fantastic way to experience the local culture! There are also a few bars that provide an alternative night out as well as two nightclubs. If you drive about 15 minutes from the city centre towards Ayia Napa, you will find the Larnaca-Dhekelia road. This is the main strip for the top class hotels and the more sophisticated nightclubs and bars in the city.

Of course the beaches are a popular attraction in Larnaca and many people tend to spend their time lounging on the beach, soaking up the sun or trying out some of the water sports on offer but there is so much more to see in Larnaca if you can drag yourself a way from the beach! Larnaca Port was built in 1625 and it was used as a prison in the first years of British rule. It is now home to a small archaeological museum, with finds from Kition and the Hala Sultan Tekke excavations. Ayios Lazaros Square boasts the magnificent that which was built by Emperor Leo Vl, in the 9th century. Restoration was carried out in the 17th century and can be called one of the tiniest examples of Byzantine architecture. The tomb of Lazarus, who was raised from the dead by Christ, came to Cyprus and lived there for another thirty years and was consecrated as the Bishop of Kition by St. Barnabas and St. Mark, can be seen under the sanctuary.
