Because of the hot climate Fuerteventura's cuisine is quite simple and yet extremely tasty. Obviously the most common food is fish this and it is generally served up with locally produced sauces and flavourings. Other local dishes include “papas arragudas”, which translates as wrinkled potatoes. If you don’t fancy trying the local cuisine there are plenty of other options! Most resorts have restaurants that serve food from all over the world, such as Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Italian and French. You will also find there are many themed pubs offering British food as well as fast food chains.
Fuerteventura's nightlife is fairly leisurely compared with the livelier islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. But you'll find many excellent restaurants, late night music bars, a few clubs and traditional fiestas to keep you entertained until the small hours. Much of the nightlife for tourists is centred on the hotels and apartment complexes. Many provide a full programme of varied entertainment for children and adults - everything from quizzes and karaoke to cabaret shows and clubs. If you fancy a night out on the town, the liveliest places to go are the capital, Puerto del Rosario, and Corralejo, the island's busiest resort area.
Fuerteventura's biggest attractions are undoubtedly its beaches and year-round sunshine. But the island offers plenty of things to do and places to visit away from the seafront - there are historic sites and museums, volcanic landscapes to explore, traditional restaurants to enjoy and a good range of sporting activities.
The island's capital, Puerto Rosario, is a picturesque small town on the east coast with typical Canarian architecture. Another great day out is to Parque Natural de Jandia, which is located in the town of Pajara and is an area full of contrasts. The reserve is a mixture of sand dunes and vegetation. It is one of the most valuable examples of nature in the Canaries. Many animals and insects can be found here including kestrels, stonechats, hawks, Egyptian vultures and lizards.
